Family affairs and estates
For many of our clients the company is the largest asset the family owns and the one least easily divided. Good planning starts by admitting that.

Quiet work, done well in advance
We help families understand what they own, what it might be worth and what tax would fall due if nothing were done. That is usually enough to show where the real questions lie. From there we can look at lifetime gifts, trusts, wills and pensions, together with your solicitor and any financial adviser you already trust. The inheritance tax relief on business assets was reformed in April 2026, so anyone whose plans were made before then should have them looked at again.
We act as accountants to a number of family trusts and prepare their accounts and tax returns. We keep the records of gifts that executors will otherwise spend months reconstructing, and we can stand as a trustee where a family would like somebody independent.
And when someone dies, we take on the figures: the inheritance tax account, the estate accounts and the final tax returns. A bereaved family has enough to do, and it helps to have this carried by people who already know the affairs and need nothing explained.
