Assumes a twelve-month period ending on the last day of the month, and excludes a company’s first period. Working days are for England and Wales. A guide, not advice.

    What it cannot know

    1. Your first accounts

A new company’s first accounts are normally due 21 months after incorporation, and its first period may not be twelve months long. Check these with us or with Companies House.

    2. Your confirmation statement

This is due at Companies House each year, within 14 days of a review date that runs from incorporation and has nothing to do with the year end. Companies House will show you the date.

    3. Quarterly instalments

Companies with profits above £1.5 million, shared among associated companies, generally pay corporation tax in instalments from month seven of the year. The dates above do not apply to them.

    4. Other VAT and payroll patterns

Monthly VAT returns and the annual accounting scheme work differently, and small employers may be able to pay PAYE quarterly rather than monthly.
