Assumes a twelve-month period ending on the last day of the month, and excludes a company’s first period. Working days are for England and Wales. A guide, not advice.

A company changes hands once in a generation.
Most of what we do is the patient work that makes that day an ordinary one: accounts that are right, tax paid when it falls due, and a family who have talked the difficult things through while there is still plenty of time.
There are five partners and twenty-two others in the house, and each client has one partner who knows the business. We have never had a sales team, which makes this website something of an exception.
What we do
Services in full- Accounts and auditYear-end accounts that a bank, a buyer or a sister-in-law can read and believe, with monthly figures for those who want them.

- Company and personal taxCorporation tax, VAT, payroll and the directors’ own returns, planned together so that one decision does not quietly undo another.

- Succession and salePassing a company to the next generation, to its managers or to a buyer, usually beginning five years or more before anyone clears their desk.

- Family affairs and estatesInheritance tax, trusts and gifts, worked through alongside your solicitor, and the estate accounts when the time comes.

Year-end checklist
Thirteen things that make a year end go quietly. Tick them off and the total runs down. It stays in this browser and goes nowhere else.

How we work
You will deal with a partner.
Not only at the beginning, and not only at the year end. The partner who takes you on stays with you, signs off your accounts and picks up the telephone when HMRC writes.
The fee is agreed first.
We quote a fixed annual fee and set out in writing what it covers. If something falls outside it, we say so first and you decide whether to go ahead.
We will say when to leave well alone.
A good share of our advice is to do nothing at all. Arrangements that look clever on paper tend to look less so in correspondence with HMRC, and we do not put clients in them.
A dozen new clients a year.
That is as many as we can look after properly without anyone else being kept waiting. If we are not the right firm for you, we will say so, and usually suggest one that is.
Saddler Gate. Ours is the black door.
